Games and sports

Kemi and Tornio are good places to go in for various kinds of sports all year round. The Lappish fells with their skiing centres and hiking trails are also close by. The KETOAKKU Student Union and its member associations in the educational units arrange differents kinds of sports events for students.

Health care

University students belong to the student health care system. In the educational units there are school nurses, whom students can see in cases of illnesses. Students can also contact the web nurse by email. Only the inhabitants of the municipalities of Kemi and Tornio are primarily entitled to municipal health and dental care, but also other students in need of urgent medical attention are been taken care of in the emergency duty.

The Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences has insured its students in case of accidents. The insurance covers accidents that happen during training periods, teaching, sports events and breaks, while taking part in the sports performances, trips, company visits etc. that belong to the school curriculum as well as on the way to school or training placement from student’s flat and back. The insurance also covers the accidents that occur during international student exchange and training periods abroad.

Nutrition

Students studying in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes can have lunch at a reducted price in the student restaurants, which serve tasty and versatile Finnish food. Outside the lunch hour students can buy snacks and drinks in the cafeterias.

Curator

Students can seek for advise from the curator in problems concerning studies, situations of life, relationships and other personal matters (e.g. tension, bullying, intoxicants, absenteeism). The curator has reception hours in all units, but she can be reached outside the reception hours, too.

School pastor

If they wish students can come and discuss with the school pastor or use him to get in touch with the church. They can discuss all kinds of matters with him such as study or work difficulties, relationship matters, moral problems or religious questions.
