JOHN CARSON At the heart of Carson’s multifarious practice lies a concern with access – physical, social, cultural, and political. From the surreal wit of his 320 mile journey (I’d walk from Cork to Larne to see the 40 shades of green, 1978) to his serial reclamation of kebab shop signs across London (Kebabarama, 1999), Carson alerts us to what is visible and what is hidden in the fabric of public space. John Carson has a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Ulster 1977 and an M.F.A. from California Institute of the Arts 1983. He has worked in various media, made installations and performed and exhibited internationally, as well as receiving commissions for radio and television. As an artist, curator and consultant he has a working knowledge of art in a range of public contexts. |
